English 105: Writer's Profile

  Introduction:

Welcome to my ENG 105 Writer's Profile Page. This site is devoted to my Spring of 2003 ENG 105 class. The content of this page is to let you know about my experiences in the ENG 105 class. Such experiences' like classroom interactions and development of my writing skills. I will also present excerpts from my writing assignments to show what I learned about writing skills.

  Classroom Interactions:
I would have to say that the classroom discussions we had were very productive because hardly ever was a time when the class would not have something to say. Or that the class would not let the room be silent for long periods of time. When we went into groups of three to four students the productivity was not as great as it was in a full class discussion. However; the groups were able to get the assignments done.

  Development of Overall Writing Skills:
My perspective on the development of writing skills is a bit a skewed because over the summer prior to ENG 105 I took ENG 110: Rhetoric in Media and in that class we learned what is to be later learned in ENG 105, such as, logos, pathos, and ethos. Thus, from this ENG 105 my writing skills enhanced by writing technique than any other aspect. However, I did gain from this ENG 105 class the technique to make an annotated bibliography.

  Written Documents:
In this part of the page I will now discuss each of the major papers we had to write in ENG 105. Just click on a link to  be directed to a new page that specifically talks about that assignment and to see excerpts from my own papers to demonstrate what I learned from that particular assignment.

  Technological Literacy:
To be completely honest I have little clue as to what this part of the profile is about. Thus, I will speak about my technological knowledge I have gained to this day. As far as word documents go I believe that I know a great deal because creating, moving, editing, opening, and deleting documents are not a problem for me at all . This is also true for  my knowledge about power point. When it comes to front page I am still learning a lot. However, I must say that working with front page is a lot easier than using plain UNIX. With regards to the World Wide Web and the question about "how your thinking about information presented on the world wide web has changed over the course of the semester?" I would say that I have not learned anything more than what I already known. I know that not all information on the web should be taken as absolute and that the visuals on a web site will effect our judgment when looking for information.

  Rounding It Up:
After taking ENG 105 I feel that my skills on writing and critical thinking is well enhanced. Yet, I know that I still have to learn to find a middle ground when it comes to writing. Currently I have two ways to write a paper, one way is to write using "I","my", etc. The other way is where I am completely politically correct, using "them", "the reader", "the purpose of this paper is...", etc. My goal is to be able to write by incorporating the two so as to make all my writing enjoyable to read and informative.
