Paper #2

In this paper #2 our goal was to make a synthesis of two different but similar media. Thanks to our way cool English teacher she allowed us to do our synthesis on two different types of movies. Unlike the rest of the ENG 105 classes they had to do a synthesis of two articles from the text book for ENG 105. Thanks teach! I choose to have a musical turned blockbuster movie theme and the two movies I choose were Moulin Rouge and Chicago. Like I stated before the thing the two movies have in common is that they were theatrical musicals turned blockbuster movies. The difference between the two movies is the story lines and cinematography. This was the bases for my Paper #2.

The new writing skill technique I acquired out of Paper #2 is how to write a synthesis. I never wrote a synthesis before and this was definitely interesting. The only thing I can think of right now that comes close to a synthesis that I have done in the past was a rhetorical analysis of two similar types of media. So, this paper was very intriguing to say the least.

Here are a few excerpts from my Paper #2:

"[common theme] is that the main female characters desire fame and they believe that with the help of a male character will they be able to gain that fame. In Chicago, Roxie depended on Billy Flynn to keep her made up life continuing. For Moulin Rouge, Satine believed that only Harold Ziddler would be able to change her into a real actress."

"Yet, even though both movies have similarities, this does not mean that they are completely the same. Even though both movies are musicals each has a different storyline and theme. Chicago is about the society of Chicago and how they find entertainment in other peoples tragedy. Moulin Rouge is a tragic love story set in Paris."
