Midwest

These are the states that make up the Midwest:

Climate

Cold winters are common in the Midwest. Cold winds blow blizzards across the prairies. In the spring, people who live near the rivers have to watch for flooding as the winter snow melts. The summers are hot. Sometimes strong winds and tornadoes blow over the plains.

Plants and Animals:

The Midwest has prairie land. A prairie is a wide grassland with few trees. prairie grass and wildflowers are beautiful when they sway in the wind.

Many animals live on the prairie. There are prairie dogs, groundhogs, deer, hawks and jackrabbits. Much of the prairie land in the Midwest has been turned into farms. Up in the northern part of the Midwest are forests and woods. Bears and skunks live there. Beaver, raccoons and many kinds of fish live near the rivers.
