i. WebCT's e-learning systems are World Wide Web Consortium
(W3C) Priority 1 compliant and adhere to Section 508 of the Americans with
Disabilities Act.
ii. Ability to selectively release course materials
Course designers and instructors can selectively release virtually every element
within a WebCT course to individual learners or groups of learners based on
pre-defined criteria. This feature can be used to release content specifically
developed for users with disabilities, or to allow more time to complete tasks
as necessary.
iii. Confirmation or feedback is provided to users after completion of tasks.
The feedback is rendered as the top item on the page to ensure users of screenreader
technology will receive it without needing to read through the page to determine
status.
iv. WebCT supplies several color set options to use for course presentation.
Included in these sets is a high-contrast version for users with color-blindness
or poor vision. WebCT also allows for the customization of these color sets.
v. Header tags have been used to convey page structure and help users of screenreaders,
such as JAWS, scan pages faster.
o. WebCT Tests for Accessibility
i. All designers are well-versed in universal design principles and accessibility
guidelines. During the design phase, accessibility concerns are taken into
account and solutions are incorporated. All code is run through a validator
prior to implementation.
ii. After implementation, all code is sent to the Adaptive Technology Resource
Centre (ATRC) in Toronto, Canada. A comprehensive report is provided detailing
any violations or problem areas which are corrected before release.
iii. WebCT's Quality Assurance is accomplished by both manual and automated
processes. The manual process is a visual inspection of the client side code
while automated processes are conducted using SSB Technologies InFocus¿
software.
