Lesson Two
Who are You? In the previous lesson you discovered some events that took place in your life and considered how they were important. Now we are going to look at who are you and how would you describe yourself to others. One hundred years from now one of your descendants may come across some documents that tell them about you. What would you like them to know? What do you think is important? What do you think will be important for them to know about you? In this lesson you will examine the events in your life and those things that you consider important. BEGIN by writing down the important events that have taken place in your life, the date you were born, your parents names, your brothers and sisters names, special events like Christmas, summer vacations.( You should already have much of this information in your timeline). NEXT write down the things that tell about you. What things do you like to do? What is your favorite book? Do you like to draw? Do you play a sport or take ballet? Look at the following links to read some other biographies and get some ideas as to how to write your own. WHEN you have gathered all the information begin by writing a rough draft of your own personal biography. After you complete your rough draft find a partner to proofread your biography and correct any errors. Use the Six traits for writing to help you proofread. Some questions to consider while proofreading: 1. If you didn't know the person would the biography help you understand him better. 2. Does the biography mention important historical events and how they affected that person? 3. Did the biography talk about the persons likes and dislikes? EDIT your rough draft and REVISE based on the recommendations made by your partner. When you are finished SAVE your biography to your portfolio. Questions to Consider1. What events did you consider to be most important for others to know? 2. How do you think someone in the future will react to your biography? 3. What things and events in your life do you think someone in the future will find odd or silly? 4. In what way will your biography give a person in the future a true understanding who you are? Self-AssessmentUse the Writing to Inform Rubric to assess your Biography. CREATE a document entitled Lesson Two-Biography Self Assessment. SAVE this document to your Portfolio. What I have learned. In this Lesson you have had an opportunity to discover who you are and how to describe yourself so that other people in the future will know who you were..
