The Adventures in Bubba's Backyard

Written by Darcy Markham

Bubba stood up from the kitchen table and closed his book. "Can I go and play now? he asked his mother excitedly.

"Yes, go ahead," replied his mother. "Dinner will be ready soon, I will call you when it is time to eat." With that Bubba scampered off into the backyard.

"What can I do?" Bubba thought. "I know I will play in the sandbox." Bubba skipped off to the sandbox and began constructing a super highway for his trucks. Just as he started building the mountain tunnel, a bright orange butterfly fluttered by and came to rest on top of the mountain of sand.

    "Hello, butterfly," Bubba greeted.

"Hello, little boy," replied the butterfly.                       "What are you doing?"

"I am building a super highway," answered Bubba.               "What are you doing?"

"Oh just flying around, smelling the flowers and gathering nectar," the butterfly wistfully replied. "Would you like to come with me?"

"Oh, yes!" exclaimed Bubba with a big smile that quickly changed to a frown. "But I don't have any wings."

"That is not a problem," the butterfly assured him. "Just close your eyes tight and think like a butterfly."

    "Is that all?" questioned Bubba.

"Yes, that is all," the butterfly assured him. "Go ahead and give it a try."

Bubba did as he was told, he closed his eyes tight and thought like a butterfly.
