Raymond Ranch Winter Trip

Our clubs relationship with the fine folks (and Bison!) at Raymond Ranch is a strong one, and there will definitely be another opportunity to go out there this Spring and help out with some of Dave Belitsky's amazing and progressive wildlife projects once again.

More to come!

Announcements:

The bowling party was fun and a great success! Since the Forestry club did not show, we are champions for another year! Thanks to everyone that made it possible!!

We had a great time again at Raymond Ranch III. This time we planted some root plants around the native fish pond, seeded the shoreline, and placed rocks into some run-off trenches to prevent more erosion. Before the day of work we had a great opportunity to see the Bison up close and personal, with-in 20 yards at one point! Of course Friday night was again a great time sitting around the campfire getting to know everyone and listening to the smooth sounds of Circadian Rythyms! Thanks to Dr. Theimer, Chris, Emily, Dean, Scott, Neal, Micah, Steve, Seth, Caley, our 2 newest members Lauren and Stephen, and of course Cinder the wonder dog for making this yet again a great time!!

Volunteer Help:

Hay Lake Wetlands Restoration Tree Planting Project and camping trip has been postponed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances, but it will still be happening (we promise!), and we'll keep you posted!

Would you like to work with Wild Turkeys, Pronghorn Antelope, Bald Eagles or Bats? Or help to install Elk exclosures? We have opportunities to help in all of these projects for the Fall/Winter! Contact us if interested.

The Wildlife Society showed up at Raymond Ranch Wildlife Area to help

manager Dave Belitsky with his Native Fish pond project. We planted

native seeds and tilled the Earth by day, and sat around a roaring campfire

by night, playing music, swapping stories and making lasting friendships.

Spreading hay on the seeded area.                   Dave tilling the earth.

Anna from Washington came to help.   Dave gives us some history of the area.

Our Reward: Seeing the Bison up close!               Relaxing by the fire.

Thanks to Mark, Jason, Don, Anna, Dean, Koren, Anna, Emily and Cinder the wonder dog for all your hard work!

Raymond Ranch II, this time we planted some root stock around the native fish pond and into one of the many canyons and also seeded a water tank! Thanks to Chris, Emily, Dean, Anna, Mayra, Amanda and Cinder the wonder dog for making a great weekend!

Raymond Ranch III, once again we headed out to our 2nd home and helped to restore more wetland areas. This was our closest experience with the Bison yet as we stood only 20 yards away from the herd. We also helped to mist net bats for identification purposes.

AZGFD Highway 260 Elk Project: Some members of the NAU TWS went near Payson to help work on a AZGFD project that involved ways to help Elk cross Hwy 260 safely. Jeff Gagnon and Norris Dodd taught us how to trap elk in a Clover Trap (in order to collar them with radio transmitters), shoot a net gun, and more. In return, we helped them install some ground wires for a infrared camera system used to capture elk movement beneath highway crossings.

Annual Bowling for Bucks - 2004 Bowling Tournament: The NAU TWS Chapter has been the NAU Bowling Champions for 2 years now. First we beat the Biological Honor Society in 2003, and then we squared off against the Forestry Club in 2004, who, unfortunately forfeited the game by not showing up, so we played against each other, and had an amazing time.

The Bowling Champions!
