Biography:

I was born and raised traveling around the "oil patch" of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico. When I went to college the first time, I thought that I would be a teacher, like so many other women in my family. However, in those days there were lots more teachers than jobs, so I ended up running a grain elevator in Nebraska. That's when Aunt Helen advised me that I would always be able to find work as a nurse. That had lots of appeal, so I went to college again, and entered the nursing profession, got married, and moved back Out West. I worked for many years taking care of babies, small children and moms when my husband got the bright idea that I should go back to school and get a Master's degree so I could teach other people to be nurses. That involved moving back to New Mexico and into the Southwest again. I have been teaching Nursing now for 6 years, the last three of them here at NAU. I am also about two years into the doctoral program here in Curriculum and Instruction, and am focusing studies around issues involving distance education and technology in nursing education.

Special Interests:

With my husband, I love to travel, camp, hike, and backpack. Our most recent adventure was a trip to Southern Utah's Escalante Canyons. We are interested in archeology of the Southwest, and love to explore ruins, find rock art, and even go to a museum once in a while. Learning about native cultures in the Southwest has become another interest, as my teaching has taken me onto the Navajo, Hopi, and Ute reservations over the past six years. Of course, we love to listen to music while we travel.
