2008-    US hemogony continues its downward spiral as the rest of the world aligns                behind China and the European Union (EU).  The rise of leftist populist movements in South America continues to spread and is felt as far north as Central America.

2009-    OIL INTERRUPTED
Saudi Arabia’s royal family is overthrown in an uprising spawn by a powerful Pan-Arab movement sweeping across the Middle East.  A battered US military is sent in to intervene but only spurs further chaos that cripples the oil supple.  Oil exports drop dramatically, sending the world into panic.  US retreats in place of a joint Arab peacekeeping force. Oil shortage rearranges global power in a matter of weeks.

2010-     Russia, Venezula and Mexico enjoy a tremendous boast in oil revenues as turmoil in Saudi Arabia continues.  Russia vows it will soon make a dramatic return to outer space.

2011-      QUETZALCOATL RETURNS
A discovery of a remarkable species of winged snake, well referred to in native cultures creates a revival of traditional culture throughout the world.  Impact of the finding is largely felt in Central and South America where Aztec and Mayan deities had been depicted as flying snakes.  Discovery also seems to confirm prophecy that Quetzalcoatl of the Aztec and Kulkakan of the Mayan had returned to usher in a new age.  Discovery energizes powerful religious groups in the US; majority of population convinced it serves as an omen of End Times. 

An upgraded Chinese Navy conducts manuvers off the coast of Okinawa creating high level protests from the Japanese government.

2012-      LATIN AMERICA UNIFYING
Discovery of the winged serpent creates unexpected effect of creating a sense of inward focus as Latin America begins re-examining and in some cases reapply traditional culture.  Self-identity based on historical cultural identity becomes chic even to the point of threatening to displace ‘Westernism’ in many Third World nations.  Spurred by the growing sense of unity, populist leftist governments of Boliva, Venezula, Brazil and Chile form a coalition for max cooperative efforts in development.  The coalition is dubbed Unified Peoples of South America (UPSA) though international experts are doubtful the four will behave as a unified body.
The events happen to coincide with the end of the Mayan Calendar that begets little discussion as Terrence McKenna enjoys his final joke.

A secret deal regarding the US selling Japan submarines is revealed further elevating tensions between China and Japan.

2013-      UPSA FLEXES ITS MUSCLE
Cuba’s Fidel Castro dies.  Violent revolt places pro-US successor in power.  International community suspects US involvement.  The UPSA formely condemns US by threatening to withhold their oil exports.  The US, already facing a decline in its economy from its slower than expected debt recovery, is left to stand by as a counter-revolt displaces Cuban leader with pro-UPSA leader.

An electron is consciously sent back in time by Japanese physcicists, marking the beginnings of time travel.

2014-      US DESCENDS
US continues to fall behind in areas of science and technology.  Federal institutions widely underfunded.  The flow of highly skilled professionals and academics to the US is greatly curbed as the EU takes the lead in science and development.   Not content with recent court victories for instigating creationism in schools, religious fundamentalists begin pushing to for more religious-based theories in the medical field.  California Secessionist Party surprises nation by unexpected success in state elections.

Microsoft, after receiving scrutiny from the US for assisting the UPSA, declares its company an independent state.  Several giant corporations soon follow.

Russia and the EU launch joint probes to Jupiter’s satellite Europa.

2015-      WATER PRIVITIZED
The privatization of drinkable water becomes a huge profit making avenue as corporations scramble for contracts for water rights with various world governments.  Drinkable water becomes the next ‘oil’ as far as highly demanded natural resources.  Third World governments find much needed revenues in selling their water but privitization creates strife between the rights of corporations and the populations dependent on the water.

China experiences a setback in their space program after the loss of a descending shuttle over the Pacific Ocean.  By sheer chance a Japanese trawler happens to be in the area where the craft’s damaged escape capsule makes touch-down and manages to narrowly rescue the soul surviving crew member.  Relations between China and Japan greatly thaw.

2016-      CANADA RISING:
Global Warming softens Canada’s traditionally cold winters, making it more appealing to outsiders and more accessible for development and extracting natural resources.  Russia works with Canada to develop the Yukon and Northwest Territories.  Immigrants flock to Canada in large numbers for its high standard of living and extensive civil liberties.  As the polar ice caps gradually melt, new oppertunities for shipping lanes open giving Canada a greater access to the international market where it is already the #1 exporter of drinking water.

2017-      UPSA SET TO STAY
The UPSA has grown significantly in membership and its efforts to improve standard of living in South America show signs of tremendous success.  Literacy reaches an all time high, unemployment an all time low.  Universities spring up throughout the region.  Pride in indigenous roots and indigenous populations creates a ‘Native Renaissance’ that celebrates and explores native arts and places emphasis on researching and preserving traditional knowledge.  Medical breakthroughs in Ethnobotany soon follow as well as dramatic efforts to preserve the environment and restore damaged areas of wilderness.  UPSA is seen as a model of hope for the continually suffering Third World.

Genetic Engineering, Robot, and NanoTech Businesses explode onto the market in a wave familiar to the dot.com's of the 90's. Living to the age of 130 becomes common in wealthy areas. Cost of merchandise drastically decreases.

2018-      CHINA’S LUNAR LANDING
China conducts its first successful lunar landing well ahead of foreseen schedule.  Rumors circulate that the advanced time frame was due in part to unofficial cooperation from Japan.

2019-      AWAKENING OF THE MEEK
An accumulation of oil shortages and food shortages from continual droughts brought by global warming creates strife in the Global South.  Revolts spread throughout Africa, foreign investments are attacked then seized by revolutionaries.  Ethnic identity and return to traditional culture are emphasized by revolutionary movements, clearly motivated by the success of the UPSA.  EU and American based corporations lose control of the natural resources.  The revolt appears successful at first as neither the EU or the US dares to intervene at first, afraid intervention will set off immigrant groups within their own borders.  Corporations are left to relay on hiring security firms to attempt to retake lost territorial claims.

2020-      FIRST GLOBAL “CIVIL WAR”
Frustration with the burden of capitalism coupled by cultural revivals spurs upheavals throughout the global south.  While rich and powerful countries become involved in an effort to maintain control of foreign resources, many find chaos forming within their own borders as minority groups and segments of populations living in poverty begin to stir at the sight of .  Aside from military involvements in various pockets of the boiling Third World, the US becomes involved in a Mexican civil war as pro-UPSA candidates win control of the government.  California officially secedes from the US and allies with Mexico’s elected government.  The Republic of California is instantly recognized by the UPSA.   Throughout rural regions of the US poorly funded schools are largely replaced by religious schools, many of which maintain a militant theme against what’s seen as apocalyptic times. 

2021-      WORLD ORDER ON THE BRINK
War continues, civil strife spreads hitting major countries of the EU and the US as well as China.  Corporations rely largely on private armies to protect their interests.  Russia stuns the international community by aligning with the UPSA’s stance of promoting the socialization of domestic resources away from rich foreign countries in the Third World.  Sensing international turmoil as a sign of the apolcalypse, zealous religious groups claim indepedence from the government and establish their own theocratic societies through rural regions of the Midwest and South.

2022-      BROTHERHOOD BEYOND BOUNDARIES
A militant movement dubbed the “International Bridge” composed largely of students and intellectuals from all over the developed world though primarily Europe and South America, wages numerous successful campaigns across Africa against corporate mercenary groups.  Fighting simmers down in Africa and peace talks begin.

2023-      NATIONS UNITED
With the world seeming to fall apart at the seams, the UN is embraced and receives levels of cooperation and investment never experienced before.  The International Bridge, well regarded on both sides of the fighting for its use of non-lethal weapons and loyalty to the Geneva Code of Conduct, is voluntarily incorporated within the UN as a Peace-Making force and used to quench remaining pockets of fighting through the Third World.

2024-      RETURN TO ESSENSE
Marked as a turning point for humanity, Russia and the UPSA along with token assistance from the Republic of California, lead the way in assisting the war-torn Third World.  Traditional means of economy and resource management are instigated in place of capitalism for small communities.  A return to traditional culture renews environmental friendly means of agriculture and pastoralism.  Borders are redrawn or even partially dissolved, based on ethnic and traditional use that pre-dates colonialism.  It’s widely understood by the international community that there needs to be a more balanced distribution of wealth in order to keep the world from falling apart.

2025-      MAN BUT NOT HUMAN
The remarkable discovery of a relic species of hominid is made in the aftermath of the fighting in Southeast Asia.  Myths and legends about wildmen, the Yeti and Sasquatch and the like are almost instantly confirmed.  The UN debates giving human rights to non-human hominids and the formerly philosophical question as to what it means to be ‘human’ is suddenly on the mind of the common layman.   The concept of a single Human Family begins to take hold, downplaying the already diminishing notion of national identity.

2026-      A WHISPER FROM THE STARS
Just as much of the world is coming to terms with the questions of human identity the hominid discovery created, SETI detects an “undeniably” artificial signal of extra terrestrial origin.  South American countries, largely spared from the war, lead the way in scientific development and begin merging space programs with Russia, Japan and India. 

2027-      A HOUSE IN PERIL
The United States’ predominately corporate-driven economy is severely crippled from the Wars of Southern Ascension.  Oregon and Washington merge with the more economically productive Republic of California without resistance with the treasurery-depleted federal government. 

2028-      GLOBAL EQUALITY BEGINS
Efforts started four years prior by Russia and the UPSA in developing the Third World begin showing signs of success.  Throughout the planet non-monetary economies of small-scale traditional agricultural and pastoral communities prove to be self-sustaining and greatly alienate the burden of poverty.  The reintegration of traditional cultural practices into society is credited with strengthening family units and attributing to a lowered crime rate.  Rural environmental friendly communities spring up in industrialized countries as urban populations begin to decline worldwide.  Military spending declines drastically world wide as spending in education soars.  Literacy levels reach an all time high.

Probes studying Europa send back data suggesting life beneath the ice.

SETI signal reavealed as a US-perpetrated hoax. Too much money and industry is already in space. Space tourism, tech research, and communication systems create huge industry.

2029-      US BEGINS COMEBACK
An enlightenment movement begins in the US against the growing theocracy movement.  It quickly gains strength as a welcome alternative to the puritanical, fear-based and exclusively male-oriented fundamentalist societies that have taken hold throughout the country.  Science and art, two formerly taboo subjects, experience a revival of sorts in the US and pride is taken in recalling the scientific achievements the nation had accomplished.

With US economy suffering, and war between countries outlawed by the Global Constitution, giant corporations like GE, Lockhead-Martin, and the Carlyle group begin to focus exclusively on Space development.

2030-      Efforts to better distribute wealth throughout the global pay off in some regions.  Most of Africa becoming productive, self-sustaining.  African Union begins with 7 nations.

Probes sent to the surface of Europa send feedback of what appears first confirmation of life elsewhere in the Solar System.

2031-      Mission to Mars seen as goal of humanity, means of demonstrating what a predominately united planet can achieve.  Also as a means of confirming that the world has truly changed.  Much discussion and excitement abounds upon the prospect of humans touching another planet for the first time.

2032-      First manned mission to Mars launched by EU/Russia with Japanese assistence.  Mission fails enroute.  Criticized for being sent off too early.  Global conference on the mission failure concludes that for success all nations or organizations with space technology will have to combine.

2033-      Global Warming effects light pigmented people the most.  If problem continues, could come to severely effect Caucasoids as a whole.

2034-      Russia superpower again.  Well regarded for their human rights work.  Aligns less with Europe and reaches out more to poor countries. Seen as the world’s caring “mother” in many regions.

2035-      ..

2036-      ..Successful Mars landing made.

2038-      World not entirely unified, strange merging of major corporations with various nations threaten the sought harmony between nation-states.

2039-      Second Mars mission. 

2040-      Grumbling in European Union.  Global trend of highlighting pre-industrial culture and traditional roots creates sense of unity amongst Slavic nations.

2042-      For unknown reasons, the birth rate between males and females has reached 1 to 5

2046-      Genetic Engineering allows for a new grain to grow in (sub)Sahara Africa. This coupled with the new AIDS vaccine and Life Extension medical/nanotechnology leads to a population boom that pushes war to further extremes.

2047-      Mission to equalize global economy appears self defeating.  Either the world must accept that poverty is needed for capitalism to work or everyone’s standard of living will be reduced.  Resource depletions and scarcity shorten the amount of patience of major powers as they feel deprived of the valuable resources found in the Third World that they no longer have access to. 

2048-      Debate causes progressing Third World nations to band together, suspecting they’ll be abondoned. 

2049-      Space station LEO constructed.

2051-     Massive world war begins.  Fighting is divided by those who want to maintain the order of the world and realize that the only way to do so is at the expense of the poor, lest global depression falls upon the planet.  Opposite side fights defensively but realizes they’re in a no win situation given that if they do win there will still be the threat of global social order collapsing.

2052-      Warfare continues.  Weaponry not all that different from several decades prior as military research had been minimized over the years.  EU breaks in half.  Slavia formed across Eastern Europe.

2053-      Orbital Ion Cannon deployed, causes turning point in the war.

2054-      War ends, uneasy truce.  World split into three main groupings.  Question still remains how the future will be balanced.  Mars seen as a possible solution for resource depletion.

2055-      Mars tops international agenda for next decade as research is put into high gear on means of establishing colonies on the planet.
