How Do I Join?

To be eligible to become a Member-In-Training (MIT) of SAI, you must have:

  • Earned at least one credit hour in music prior to initiation.

  • A cumulative grade point average of 2.9 or higher at the time of initiation.

  • Not been initiated by Mu Phi Epsilon, Delta Omicron, or Phi Beta.

To become an MIT, you will need to:

  • Attend Delta Eta Chapter's Rush Party, if possible.

  • Submit an application for membership.

  • Pay the $60 MIT fee.

  • Receive an inviation to membership from the chapter and respond in the affirmative.

Please note that most of this fee goes to Nationals; only a small part goes to the chapter, for supplies during the MIT Period. If you are having financial problems, please DO NOT let that stop you from joining SAI! We will work out a payment plan that you can afford!

During your MIT Period, you will be expected to:

  • Attend chapter events, including certain rituals, meetings, and sisters' solo recitals (not including ensemble concerts or studio recitals).

  • Attend five MIT education meetings; you will be quizzed on the material covered and must pass these quizzes.

  • To view the attendance policy during the MIT Period, please click here. (You will need Acrobat Reader to access this file.)

  • Pass a chapter examination.

  • Pass the national member ship examination with a score of 85% or higher.

  • Pay the $200 national initiation fee.

  • Pay the $10 spring chapter dues (fall MITs only).

  • Organize and perform on an MIT musicale.

  • Organize and participate in an MIT community service project.

  • Organize and participate in an MIT fundraiser.

If an MIT class is too small to execute a community service project and/or fundraiser on its own, the class can ask to be involved in the chapter's project(s) for the semester. Also, if an MIT incurs financial problems, we can work out a payment schedule.

If you are interested in becoming a member of Sigma Alpha Iota,
