Past Trips

Location: Granite Mountain Distance from Flagstaff: 85 miles
Trip Leader: Brad Cooke
People on hike: Nate, Greg, Sharon, Brad

This was a last minute hike because weather kept us from making it to Durango. It is only 4.1 miles to the top but the trail is great. We hiked up this valley around the face of the mountain and went up switchbacks to the pass. From there we hiked back over to the top of the mountain. Because it was such a short hike we made it to the top early and had tons of daylight to explore in. We wandered around and found a place to set up camp but later changed our minds and moved to another spot. The top is cool because it has exposed granite slabs and you can walk around to the edge of the mountain. We watched a climber top out and watched the sun go down. Our camp was right on a granite slab and our kitchen was in between a couple of huge boulders. A skunk visited us at night and found some crackers before wandering by the heads of Nate and Greg. In the morning we got up and headed down making it back to Flagstaff early.
