Secret Mountain

really more of "Flagstaff" hike, since the trailhead is WAY (I mean WAY) out the end of Woody Mountain Road, which starts on west Rt. 66. From this trailhead you drop to a saddle and meet the Loy Canyon trail coming in from the right. If you break left off the trail, you can drop into the remote and trail-less upper reaches of Secret Canyon. Staying on the trail, you climb onto Secret Mountain. The trail wanders across the top, coming to a ruined cabin in a small valley. From here the trail climbs up to the rim. Now you can wander around the rim of Secret Mountain, finding a wide variety of outrageously good views of red rocks and Verde Valley thousands of feet below. A great easy overnighter, but you need to carry water.
