History of Lake Mary

 

The dam to create Upper Lake Mary was built in 1903.

Lake Mary was built in 1903 to serve as a method of transporting timber. Today it serves as a source of water for Flagstaff. Lake Mary recharges the aquafer for Flagstaff, as well as having water drawn straight from the lake. Both lakes, upper and lower Lake Mary offer fishing, with the upper lake being larger. Upper Lake Mary is also used for boating and other types of recreation.
