First meeting of the semester is Wednesday, January 18th 7:30 PM at the Campus Coffee Bean. All officers must attend if interested in staying on the board, and all members are urged to attend, as this will be purely planning, budgeting and brainstorming. If members are unable to attend, but would like to add input before the meeting, they are welcome to do so as well, but be sure to include the following: Meeting times you can always attend and any ideas you have for this upcoming semester.
Meeting Minutes:
February 1, 2006
General Meeting Beginning of the Meeting:
Mike opened the meeting with a "State of the Union" speech, expressing his desire to have to the club do far more this semester than we have in the past few.
Mike said, and Dr. Antes reiterated, that we need to stay focused for this entire semester. Last semester we started out strong, with a good attendance for meetings, but we trickled off towards the end. We're going to try to do better this semester.
Elections and New Members:
Rene will no longer be our Vice President. Teresa nominated Kristen and it was seconded by a club member. The entire club voted and the majority voted Kristen into the Vice President title. Since no one expressed a desire to be secretary, Kristen will continue to perform those duties as well.
Everyone present introduced themselves and there were some new faces and some old.
.
Old Business:
Kristen has taken over the emeritus faculty project. Dr. Riner is in the process of getting contact information for the faculty after which we will be able to get more done. Anyone who is interesting in helping should email Kristen at ka292@dana.ucc...
Randy has taken over the club t-shirt project. A sign up sheet was sent around for t-shirt sizes. They will cost each person between $7-10, depending on our cost. We will be putting in the order sometime in the following week. If you would like a t-shirt and didn't sign up for one, email Mike at lmf49@dana.ucc...
Teresa is continuing to be in charge of the snack bar, and the club is making money because of it. If you'd like to help...next time you're in Emerald City, buy a candy bar!
New Business:
Mike has been speaking to Gerald Bacon about teaching the club to construct atlatls. Mike needs to set a firm date with Gerald Bacon, but as soon as he does, he will let the club know. We are trying to get a date set up for sometime in February.
We are asking for approximately $5 from each member who will be participating, to offset the cost of the materials (which we will be buying from Home Depot, or somewhere similar). We will be making only 5 or 6 spears, but hope to be able to make at least a throwing board for everyone.
Our challenge from the ASU club still stands and the contest is in September. We hope to get our atlatls constructed and to become skilled enough with them to make quite a showing.
Lauren and Mike are continuing to set up the tie-dye fundraising. The club will help teach others how to tie-dye, setting up somewhere either on campus or off.
It needs to be warm enough for the dye to set, so the proposed date is the first or second weekend in April. If you would like to help, please email Mike at lmf49@dana.ucc... or Lauren at las229@dana.ucc...
The other fundraiser we are trying to do is a whipped cream pie event, in which people pay $3-5 to hit someone else in the face with a pie. We are hoping to get professors to volunteer to be "pie-d".
It was also proposed that we combine this with a bake sale of some kind. Mike is in charge of this event, if you would like to help please contact him at lmf49@dana.ucc...
Professor O'Hara has agreed to take the club to Wupatki the last weekend in February. We will meet in the North Campus parking lot at the very end of campus around noon on 2/26 (more specific details to follow, check your email!)
11 people present said they would be coming, which should be plenty. If not enough people show interest, or it looks like we won't have enough people show up, Mike will cancel the trip.
But Wupatki should be wonderful! There is a new Visitor's Center and it is only a few minutes away by car.
This Friday, Dr. Downum is leading a group to Walnut Canyon from 9-3 (not affiliated with the Anthropology Club.
Mike has been talking with Tony Nestor about doing a Primitive Living Skills class for the club. Mike is working it out with the department to get everyone one unit of class credit.
It will be the last weekend of Spring Break, from 3/25 - 3/26 and we leave about 9am on Saturday the 25th. The cost will be $30 a person (a huge discount!). The club will be providing most of the food, with Nestor providing one meal for us at his own expense.
In addition, there is an unexcavated pit house right behind Nestor's house (where the workshop/class will be). Nestor has offered the pit house to people if they would like to come out a month before or so and map out the area. We will be setting up a test square. If anyone is interested in being a part of this "pre-class event" please contact Mike at lmf49@dana.ucc...

Our bank account has some money in it, approximately $300, thanks to the money from the snack bar. We hope to raise this amount quite a bit in the coming months!
Welcome back everyone! We are very busy and this should be a good semester, with lots to be accomplished!
