Assessment Task 2: Applying for funding

Consider the situation below:

Remember Maha Jaradat? She is a law student from the Gaza Strip who wants to use her knowledge of the law to help the people of her country. She thinks a better understanding of international law would help her to improve the situation in her community. She wants to study at a school of law in the United States for a year. The cost of international tuition at an American law school is much more than she can afford.

  1. Visit the websites for the funding organizations below.
  2. Look for information about funding for individuals and scholarships.

Ford Foundation

Open Society Institute

Review the programs on both websites. Decide which ONE would be the best match for Ms. Jaradat:

  • Review the foundation’s programs and goals
  • Analyze the foundation’s values/culture
  • Review application process
  • Review terms of completion (if any)

In your notes, answer the following questions about the organization:

  • Why did you decide on this organization?
  • How does it best fit Ms. Jaradat’s goals?

In your notes, create a timeline for Ms. Jaradat, explaining which steps (if any) would be on-going.

  • Would this timeline differ with another funding organization?
  • Why would it be different?
