Name: Travis Shumake

Position Seeking: Student Body President

Year in school: Junior

Major: Hotel and Restaurant Management
Reason for seeking office? I am seeking the office of student body President because I care about my peers, their futures, and the things they experience in their days at NAU.

The top five things you want to accomplish in office? 1) Increase student support of campus administrators. 2) Raise Student support of NAU athletics through the free sports pass, tailgating and programming. 3) Create a sense of “pride in our education” to reinforce the quality degrees our students are receiving. 4) See to its completion the 24 hours library program. 5) Revaluate the safe-ride program and make it more useful and consistent for the students.

Most pressing issue facing your constituents? Tuition. While I hate to see tuition increase, if we can educate the students on the needs of the university and create a balanced fair increase system we can meet the needs of both the students and administration.

What makes you a unique candidate? I bleed blue and gold. I have invested my tenure at NAU in my peers and seem to always find a way to bring excitement to the campus. I am a member of our campuses Greek life system and feel strongly that it has added to my experiences during my studies as an undergraduate. I am also an NAU athlete. Campus athletics are what bring life to a college campus and I want nothing more then to pack every venue at each and every home game.

Relevant past experiences? ASNAU vice president of student affairs; ASNAU leadership coordinator; ASNAU/NSO senate liaison; NSO advisor; Sigma Chi fraternity social, philanthropy and public relations chairman; Inter Fraternity Council special events coordinator;
