Name: Mary Venezia

Position Seeking: Social and Behavioral Sciences Senator

Year in school: Freshman

Major: Speech Communication – Pre-law

Reason for seeking office? I want to become more involved at NAU and represent my peers through ASNAU.

The top five things you want to accomplish in office? 1.) Build a strong community within the School of Communication and Social and Behavioral Science. 2.) Represent SBS students to the best of my ability. 3.) Help SPS student organizations achieve their goals through my representation. 4.) Encourage SPS students to have a greater voice on the decisions being made at NAU. 5.) Achieve a friendly, open correspondence between the SBS senator and SBS students, allowing their opinions to be better heard.

Most pressing issue facing your constituents? With the combining of the School of Communication and Social and Behavioral Sciences into one school, there is a unique opportunity for the schools to come together to form a community. There is a mixture of feelings and opinions about the combining of the two schools, but now a greater opportunity to have a larger impact on decisions affecting students.

What makes you a unique candidate? This past year I have had the awesome opportunity to serve the Student Senate as the New Student Organization’s liaison. Through this unique opportunity, I have learned from current senators the importance of the student senate.

Relevant past experiences? I am currently a member of the New Student Organization and was a member of the student council in high school.
