Position Seeking: Senator of Consortium ofProfessional Schools

Year in school: No answer

Major: No answer

Reason for seeking office? My reason for seeking office is that I want the chance to make positive changes within my college, and want to bring the concerns of the people I’d represent to the Senate who can do something about them.

The top five things you want to accomplish in office? The top five things I want to do in office are: provide fun and interesting forums for the students in the college, to help students in the school realize that someone is listening to their concerns and comments, provide encouragement and help students acknowledge that they have the ability to influence their school and community, provide more publicity to the related clubs and organizations, encourage a sense of community and communication within the school.

Most pressing issue facing your constituents? I believe one of the largest problems facing my constituents is their lack of representation in the Senate, which is one of the main reasons I am running. I want the chance to give them that representative.

What makes you a unique candidate? I feel I am unique because I have a long history of being interested in the democratic process. I am also different because I strongly believe in one individual being able to make things better for themselves and others if they have the desire, and are willing to work for it. Lastly I am unique because I have experience with getting along with a wide variety of people, possess strong communication skills, and am wiling to listen and help people find the answers they are looking for.

Relevant past experiences? One experience I feel is relevant is being involved with NSO, or the New Student Organization, here on campus. This is relevant because it has given me a chance to get a preview of some of the things I may end up doing as a senator. It also has allowed me to meet new people, and I have gained a mentor who I can ask questions of. Lastly, this is a relevant experience because it has allowed me to interact with both last year’s government, and meet the people who may end up running our future student government.

Another relevant experience I have is serving as an executive member of Tinsley Hall Council. This is relevant because it has allowed be to learn how to truly represent others, and has given me a chance to expand my communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Serving as a secretary has also taught me to keep minutes, and how to be accountable to myself and others.
